Explore Nature this Earth Day

Over the Easter holidays we've been outside as much as possible, enjoying the sunshine and not being stuck in classrooms. The weather has been mostly kind to us and we've had a lot of fun. It's been fantastic to talk about the world around us and Rachel's had a million and one questions.

Since its Earth Day next week I thought I'd share some of the photos and things we've explored.

At the Beach
We looked at the waves and their power and how they move with the moon. At our trip to the Museum of Electricity Rachel had seen a display about wave power and we talked about how that would work.

We looked at the sand and all the pebbles and shells and talked about how the waves move the sands and how old the sand is.

Rachel dug a hole, looking for water and we wondered whether we were near enough to the sea to dig down to water. We weren't but we did find some massive stones and it was damp and cold deep down.

We didn't look at the sun but we felt the heat of it and talked about solar power. I managed to get a photo of it and we looked at the rays coming from the sun.

Our best find at the beach was this this casing for a ray; we'd been to an aquarium last year and they'd said to look out for them and it was fantastic to see one and know they're alive and well on the south coast.

Amidst the showers
Later that day, driving home, there were loads of heavy showers which meant we were blessed with eight rainbows. What better celebration of the earth is there than this?

At the Farm
There can be no where better place than the farm to experience spring and new life. Yesterday we saw the lambs and talked about twins and milk and wool.

And lastly we fed the goats which give milk for cheese; perfect.
