Paralympic sport

No sight, no sound, no legs, no arms
Written off by many
Now show all that they can do
On funds of mere pennies

Yes
They can do it
Yes
They are superhuman

Setting an example to all
No excuses they give
Being the best they ever can
Showing us how to live

Linked up at real toads for a form challenge on the theme "athletes".  On the day Oscar Pritorius is charged with murder it is good to take the story back to his work in highlighting the amazing feats of Paralympic sport.

  1. Indeed, such athletes inspire not only those who share their particular issue, but anyone with any daunting challenge, and that is why when someone like Pistorius (sp?) or lance rmstrong falls, it is about a lot more than sport.

Thanks so much, Emma, for taking part in my challenge, and for doing such a nice job on the form.

  2. You make a good point here, Emma - we have to remember the ones who hold themselves to a higher standard. It just is so disappointing, as Shay says, when the mighty fall so low.

  3. The paraolympics are always so impressive. But they are no more superhuman than other athletes that "fall" unfortunately.

  4. I agree with these fine poetic gals...Emma, great job shining the light on the spirit of the sports-heroes that exist.

  5. This is inspiring--you got the form and the athletes. And thee athlets, unlike others who hit the news and make big bucks, are worthy of recognition.

  6. I does seem that many sportsmen can still get ordinary life wrong, though...

  7. Yes, it's easy to forget the good when the negative is so very strong, but you make a valid point in a very positive way.

  8. You brought out very well the realities surrounding those paralympic athletes, Emma! They must have gone through real hell with difficulties and determination to arrive, like Oscar. A pity they fell from grace real hard. There's such a thing in not being able to manage success! Nicely!

  9. Most do not fall in such a way as Pritorius. I often think the para-athletes have quite the story to tell. They have triumphed, but not without a lot of physical and emotional ups and downs.

    Well done!

  10. There are so many great athletes that show us nothing has to stop us whatever the race we run.

  11. Sad how a single act can wipe out a lifetime's achievement.

  12. We do look up to our athlete superheros, especially here in the USA. Most of the time it's warranted, other times - not so much.

    :-) :-)

  13. Yea, they have to tell themselves to be the one the world will look up to..it's the toughest job in the world..and they know if they fall it will be most tragic.

  14. I like the way you refocus your readers on the achievement rather than the headline downfall.
