Today at real toads we were challenged to write an ekphrasis to one of the paintings of Spanish Impressionist Joaquin Sorolla. I chose the one below.
This is as pure a lullaby as I have ever heard sing.
ReplyDeletePerfect.
I like the way this builds from the end line words, almost like a cascade poem--and you capture the serenity mixed with uncertainty that is at the heart of mothering, as well as the contemplative mood of the picture. Thanks for participating.
ReplyDelete"Fear not" has biblical echoes about it, a phrase that appears over and over again when God confronts humans.
ReplyDeleteA Dozen Whirls
I love this cascading form. You express a new Mother's fears so well,,,and the thoughts that come full circle,,back to the sweetness in her arms.
ReplyDeleteLove the flow from end words into beginning words. Such a lovely lullaby.
ReplyDeleteHope and caring in this poem, just like I see in the picture. Well done form poem.
ReplyDeletePerfect, Emma, as a newborn is perfect.
ReplyDeleteK
Oh, this is gently and sweet :D
ReplyDeleteI agree like a lullaby~
Lovely ending...
ReplyDeleteA difficult form, you managed it beautifully!!!
ReplyDelete"My baby"...
ReplyDeleteNO sweeter words than that. Sigh.
