We go through life
Searching
Day by day for
Meaning
Weeks and weeks
Merging
Year on year
Unrelenting
One day,
perhaps,
it comes to pass
That meaning's found
in what will last
Insight
Shared
Creativity
Inspired
Works
Produced
But then
A blinding light of truth
It's not at all
What we produce
But what
We ARE
Near and far
Love
Undivided
Kindness
Provided
These un-measurable gifts
Of ourselves, others lift
In their own memory
Across the century
Not knowing a name
There'll be no infamy or fame
But ...
On your bed
At the end
You might
Remember
That
For those men
You were
A saviour
Your deed
Greater than ten
Right then
Xxxx
This poem is inspired by Wordsworth's quote “The best portion of a good man's life: his little, nameless unremembered acts of kindness and love.” and linked up at real toads.
I love your approach to this poem Emma, with the sentence fragments dispersed over the page. Your last lines delivered a strong message.

ReplyDeleteLife often forgets names, faces, but an act of kindness, compassion does make a difference and lives forever.
Creativity and insight - great combination of talents to use...
ReplyDeleteThis is very beautiful, and profoundly wise.........at the end, yes, it is those moments of kindness given that matter. Wonderful write!

ReplyDeleteI chose the same quotation, because it is such a truth to my way of thinking.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you responded to it, Emma. I'm sure that you often have people telling you how much you have helped them without knowing it.

I have to agree with Kerry here in your choice of form for expressing this poem... delivering us in the end with one of the great truths of life...well done. :)
ReplyDeleteVery creative n' clever!
ReplyDeleteI like how one idea cascades into another :D
Love the structure here, it helps to bring home your point.
ReplyDeleteEmma, your choice of subject reinforces your mission statement. I, too, have that problem of ensuring people don't think I'm representing my church - my hub is the pastor - so I get that.
ReplyDeleteDid not see that this would lead to Jesus, but then, most things do if one lives in that love. Peace, Amy

ReplyDeleteJust in the way it is written it speaks of searching, and what a beautiful message it contains.
