A to Z and back again #NaPoWriMoDayThirty

A beauty crept downstairs
Every feature gripping hearts,
Intriguing joyful kings,
Leaving men nearing oblivion.
Prom queens relinquished stars,
Tornadoes unwrapped veils,
Whispers Xpelled young zeal.

Zipped-up youthful xcitement
Visited unearthly twirling storms.
Remembered questions proceeded
Obvious news.
Men lent kind judgement,
Immediately halting, graciously,
For earthly dowagers chasing
Binding angels

Inspired by and linked up at real toads.  I can see this poem in my mind and I wish I could paint it, my hope on this last day of NaPoWriMo is that my words paint a picture for you.

Resistance is futile #NaPoWriMoDayTwentyNine

"Resistance is futile"
Says the ginger cake
"You want a piece of me
Give in for goodness sake"

       "I will NOT eat you
       No matter what you say
       Even when you wink
And call to me that way"

"One piece can not hurt
Just one hundred calories
Save instead on lunch
I'm much nicer than cheese"

       "Stop, you're tempting me
I will not give in today
       I will NOT eat you
       No matter what you say"

"Resistance is futile
Perhaps you're strong right now
But I know if I stay here
You'll eat me in a while"

Linked up at Sunday scribblings.  I may or may not resist the ginger cake I'm presenting at toddlers today, watch this space.

Sugar #NaPoWriMoDayTwentyEight

I crave sugar
The sweet kick
My drug of choice

I despise sugar
It's hold on me
A putrid friend

I abandon sugar
For today at least
Though I shudder

Xxx

Linked up at Three Word Wednesday with the words crave, putrid and shudder.

The power of the book #NaPoWriMoDayTwentyEight

With the good book in hand
They cover the land
With laws and judgements galore

With apocryphal zeal
They say what they feel
About anything that offends their law

Intending to do good
They say that we should
Abide by the words to the letter

But in preaching their code
The dish out a load
To cruel for most to measure

Our scripture is not
A gun slingers shot
To aim wherever we feel

It's reassurance for all
No matter the fall
Forgiveness it's central deal

Xxxxx

This poem is inspired by the infamous quote from "To kill a mockingbird"

“Sometimes the Bible in the hand of one man is worse than a whisky bottle in the hand of (another)... There are just some kind of men who - who're so busy worrying about the next world they've never learned to live in this one, and you can look down the street and see the results.”
― Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird

Read all about it #NaPoWriMoDayTwentySeven

Forty four years ago
Sitting on a bench
Catching up on all the news
Ignoring the stench

Nothing's really changed that much
Just the way we read
News is still controlled by power
Giving us what we need

Pretending not to like the bad
Asking for more good
But when it's given straight to us
We say they've misunderstood

Inspired by the photo and linked up at sepia Saturday.

Save the frog day #NaPoWriMoDayTwenthSeven

Oh my my
Too many flies
I knew I should stop
But they're a lovely lot
All different flavours
So much to savour
And now my tummy
Regrets the yummy
Next time I'll restrict
The number I pick
I'll be more selective
Perhaps more creative
With more taste
And less haste
But for now
I wonder how
I'll recover
My brother
Oh my my
Too many flies

Today is Save the Frog Day and this is my ode to this wonderful photo of a frog.  Linked up at real toads.

Daily drenching

Tender trembling
Totally titillating

Searing sensations
Soothing swim

Daily drenching

Could it be magic

Take two friends
Just young girls
Give them time
To unfurl

Feed them well
Allow free reign
A magic time
They'll arrange

A jar of beads
Priceless jewels
Rifle through
No firm rules

They decide
What to make
Could it be magic
They create?

Xxxxxx

Inspired by Carry on Tuesday prompt "could it be magic".

Cliffs notes #NaPoWriMoDayTwentyFive

Late, so late; it can't be that time
Hand brake turn; don't knock down sign
Congratulations toasted with wine
And then again, with more design
Same old faces, such a chore
Wishing my life could be a bore
Until a shock, how could it be
He was a lion, roar did he
Now we get it, at last it makes sense
Follow your heart, believe in romance

Xxxxxx

Izy at real toads challenged us to write a short cliffs notes poem for our favorite book, film or music.  Can you work out mine from this?

Eruption #NaPoWriMoDayTwentyFive

Pressure building
Don't hold inside too long
Lava flow

Pressure building
Trying not to say the words
Eruptions cause pain

Don't hold inside too long
Burns away at your soul
Release pressure valve

Lava flow
Engulfs everything
Burns
