I smile behind tears

Storms disrupt heartbeats

Seas crash wildly

Pain floods my brain

Six feet under, maudlin

Cheated, in fear

Anger of injustice

Nude soul laid bare

Just as birds take flight

Calm is whipped up

Mindfulness lost

Faltering reality stops

Fingers stroke muscles

Painful sunburnt reality 

Cactus thorns invisible

Sending jolts of electricity

Repercussions raising

Golden jaguars pacing

Opportunities priming

Hopeful songbird singing

Midnight wakefulness

Dreaming of mornings

Bright with homemade rainbows

Touching the other side
