On a beach
Lazing around
A warming breeze
I'm safe and sound
Gentle waves
Shells galore
Palm tree shade
I fear no more
This is my
Safety room
In my mind
Safe from doom
(Today I took
My Rachel there
Lots of fun
Without a care)

Mama Zen at Real Toads challenged us to write about our safe place in 53 words or less. This was the safe place I used for my childbirth meditations. It's the safe place I go when depression is overwhelming. And it's a real life safe place where Rachel and I went today.

How rich to have such a room for retreat and rebuilding. Good for you for constructing it and good that you share it with Rachel so she can do the same.
Sounds like a safe place to return to when you need it.
Beautiful! I have so many memories of being at the ocean with my daughters and always they give me comfort when I am feeling down.
I'm so glad that your safe place will likely become treasured by your daughter, too.
The beach can be many things ... safe, lulling us into a peaceful and serene state of mind ~~~ fierce and frightening too.
I enjoyed this Emma.
I can feel those warm breeze and sound of sea waves...
The beach, I love it. I love to hear the waves and seagulls.
This is wonderful I find the sound of the water and the feel of the sand beneath my feet very relaxing as well, I can't say I feel safe because my skin is positively vampiric lol
You were lucky to have those blue skies. And palmtrees no less. Take me there...
A wonderful place. Hope your dotty finds it equally safe and peaceful. The rhyming made it brisk!
Sounds like a glorious spot.
Very vivid.
It's beautiful, all of it, the photo and the poem together. I love that it holds so many wonderful memories for you.

How beautiful!
Life's a beech - and it's a good thing! Nice write!
Internal safe places are a wonderful coping skill for depression. How lovely you have an external one now that you can share with your daughter. I miss the peacefulness of walking along on the beach but can be there in a second in my imagination. Great writing!
