5th March 2012 Luke 6:36-38

Judging Others Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.  Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

Do not judge or condemn, instead give and forgive.  It can seem so easy to follow these simple commands and yet if we examine ourselves fully I suspect we all fail more than we succeed.

Do not judge; that means that never have you made a decision on someone based on your first meeting of them, never have you decided that someone looks suspicious because of their clothing or posture.  Can you honestly say you've never done that?

Do not condemn; meaning do not decide someone is guilty of something as simple as poor parenting based on your limited knowledge of them.  Parents condemn each other all the time, it makes me sick but I myself am condemning their behaviour by saying that.  See how easy it is to fail this task.

Give of yourself, give of your goods, give of your love and give unsparingly and completely.  And forgive others, no matter what they have done to you or others.  Not easy is it?  But God only requires that we try and keep trying and keep trying some more.

Father you ask us to be as true to your wants as possible and we try, but we know we fail; keep helping us succeed.  Amen.
