Today at St Nicolas Earley we had our first People, Prayers and Potatoes of 2012. It being Epiphany season I decided to have a session on the three kings and their visit to Jesus. I started by reading a dramatised account of the Maji's visit and showing a map of just how far they journeyed. After that it was organised crafting chaos, here are a few photos.
Here was a group decorating cupcakes with presents and stars
A group decorating lanterns of light to follow
This is kings crown making
And proof that dads love to chat
This is a project making 3 king paper chains
Here is proof that the simplest origami star really is child's work
Although she is exceptional at craft and spent 20 minutes guided through the steps.
I love a bit of communal art and here are some guys painting a canvas art piece
And closer up
After all the crafting and creating (and washing of hands) we moved over to church for a short act of worship whilst watched by the 3 kings
Neil talked about the gift we are to those we know and love, the kids were enthralled
He then taught them an action song and just look how into it he got - this is surely a sign of a great vicar that he'll mess about with the kids (yes, I have permission to share this)
And finally, here are our creations on the theme of the three kings
Canvas Art
Sparkly fish
Decorated cupcake in a present box
Lantern to light the way to a king
Three kings paper chain
And the star of love made for me
I love PPP, it's fun, engaging, accessible and well worth the effort it takes. Messy Church (or whatever you chose to call it) rocks!
