An ode to then and now

As I write this ode
I try to scrub my mind pure
Of all those thoughts

All those thoughts which stay
No matter how much cleaner
I feel each day

Each day now I'm pleased
That toilets are not central
To my mental health

My mental health which
I take seriously now
And care for each day

  1. Hiya, Emma. So sorry for delay in commenting. Ironcially, I had a long day at the office. I really appreciate what you have accomplished with this little write out. I enjoyed your words, relating to a job as a cleaner--or eek maybe caregiver/mother--and applied them to the quest to clean and tidy a cluttered mind. Very clever. Thanks so much for posting to the out of standard!!!

  2. Emma, my first time at your blog, thanks to Real Toads! I can tell you did major cleaning at one time, and yes, that job is horrible.

I love how you took those words and applied them to your emotions, your daily self-care. I have manic depression and the time I take simply breathing, well, it's all healing. GREAT! Amy

  3. Oh, yes, if we could scrub our mental health as we once scrubbed floors, sinks, etc.
You've done a lovely job here, though, Emma.

(I just realized there are millions of people out there, probably none of them poets, who never think of mental health, their own or anyone else's.)

  4. Like the others I enjoyed how you applied the cleaning words in this poem. This is a fun prompt.

  5. Yes, if we could just scrub our mental health like we can scrub a floor...great job!
