#cyblessings 5th April 2012
Christian Aid Partner COC Bless in Egypt has trained farmers to grow green beans for export to Europe, earning five times the local market price .
In times of thinking about the environment and trying to reduce food miles and being encouraged to eat locally grown and seasonal foods this is problematic. It's fantastic that eating the foods from this scheme will sustain and develop a community, but what are the side effects elsewhere. This is a real tricky issue to deal with and one we all struggle with at every shop.
Christian Aid are asking us to give 10p for any fruit and veg that you've bought this week that was not grown in England.. I have bought grapes and bananas this week but everything else has been uk grown, so I'll donate 20p.
