Wokingham & West Berkshire Mental Health Association - A small charitya day in May - Day Twenty Two

Welcome to day twenty two in Week Four - Taking and Saving where I highlight those small charities that support those who need help in their day to day lives.

For an introduction to the entire series please visit http://llmcalling.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/small-charity-day-in-may.html

Wokingham & West Berkshire Mental Health Association provides support and advice to those with, or caring for, mental health issues. They provide the following services free of charge, and on an entirely voluntary basis, to the local community:

- Drop-In Centre,
- Crisis Beds,
- Befriending Service
- Library.

A small charge (much less than the commercial rate) is levied for the use of our Selsey based Holiday Caravan.

People make voluntary contributions for refreshments such as tea, coffee & biscuits provided in the Drop-In, and small contributions are usually made for use of the telephone.

Donations (including donations in kind) are always welcome. No charges are made for use of the Crisis Beds for the following reasons: while our accommodation is provided on a charitable basis, the crisis house is not eligible to pay business rates. Guests usually stay for brief periods while in crisis and it would be inappropriate to add the burden of financial worries to their existing crisis. Where guests stay longer, they usually have severe problems, and the opportunity offered to be free of financial concerns and thus to save money can contribute to a successful long-term resolution of the presenting crisis.
