#cyblessings 9th March 2012

Britain generates 9 tonnes of carbon dioxide per person per year. In Nicaragua, where the effects of climate change are already being felt, it's 0.8 tonnes.

It is the poorest and least developed that make the least impact on the environment yet rely the most on it.  This is no coincidence.  In our lives we are disconnected from the environment; we complain when it rains because we don't see how life giving it is.  We love the heat but use air conditioning to 'cope' with it.  We don't harness the power of the wind as we could, in fact we complain about the eye sores of the wind turbines.  We think our environment is beautiful, yet it is all manmade and far removed from the natural situation we would find if we had not developed.  In Nicaragua the people value and care for their natural resources knowing that it is all the have and future generations will need it.  They use only the resources they need and protect all they have.  We have a lot to learn from the countries we insulting refer to as poor and developmentally behind us.  Who is really the wisest?

Christian Aid are asking us to give 50p for every flight you've taken this year.  I haven't flown anywhere for 3 years, we can't afford to and have realised the beauty of staying in Britain and enjoying our own natural wonders.
