Ash Wednesday

Today is Ash Wednesday
The first day of lent
A day when if you see me
I'll have ash on my forehead
That ash is from palm crosses
Burned from the previous year
And mixed up with oil
And placed here on me
The cross of ash
Is a symbol to us
Of Jesus' sacrifice
And forgiveness of us
It shows we are sorry
For what we've done wrong
It's also a reminder
That to ashes we'll return
Before we receive
The ashes as a cross
We forgive our sins
Give them all to the boss
It's a powerful service
One I wouldn't miss
It fills me with love
You should try it

In 2012 I wrote this piece about what happens on ash wednesday
In 2013 I wrote a tiny haiku about ash wednesday
