Earley Volunteer Driver Bureau - A small charity a day in May - Day Twenty one

Welcome to day twenty one and the first day in Week Four - Taking and Saving where I highlight those small charities that support those who need help in their day to day lives.

For an introduction to the entire series please visit http://llmcalling.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/small-charity-day-in-may.html

Earley Volunteer Driver Bureau is a community transport scheme for elderly and mobility-restricted residents of Earley. Drivers use their own cars, and are re-imbursed for mileage.

Here is some information they provided to me about their charity.

What does your charity/project do?
WE ARE A LOCALISED CHARITY IN THE TOWN OF EARLEY.WE HAVE AN OFFICE WHERE CALLS ARE RECEIVED FROM CLIENTS AND WE ARRANGE LIFTS TO MAINLY MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS WHICH ARE CARRIED OUT BY VOLUNTEER DRIVERS. WE HAVE BEEN IN EXISTENCE FOR OVER 25 YEARS AND WITHOUT OUR SERVICE THE PEOPLE WE HELP WOULD BECOME STRANDED IN THEIR OWN HOMES. OUR WORK IS ONGOING. OUR MAIN PLANS ARE USUALLY CONCERNED WITH FINDING VOLUNTEERS AND FUNDING TO KEEP THE SERVICE GOING.

How does your charity/project support the local community?
PROJECTS LIKE OURS AS WELL AS PROVIDING THE BASIC SERVICE GIVE A LINK TO THE OUTSIDE WORLD FOR PEOPLE WHO MIGHT OTHERWISE HAVE NO OUTSIDE COMMUNICATION AND RELIEVE THE LOCAL AUTHORITIES AND HOSPITALS OF MAKING PROVISION FOR THE MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC WE HELP
