Meditation on the shepherds journey to Jesus

Today we will enter into the story of the shepherds who came to visit Jesus at his birth.

Whilst you listen try to imagine yourself into the story

Let’s begin
Find a comfortable position.
Breathe slowly,
in through your nostrils,
out through your mouth.

Breathe...
Feel your tummy slowly rising and falling.

Imagine yourself sitting on a hillside
Just a few shepherds in the country
Feel the grass below your body
Hear the chatter of your friends

There's a faint bleating of sheep
The darkness, the wondrous stars
The cool breeze of the evening
The warmth from the fire

Suddenly the darkness is gone
The sky is filled with light
It's so bright
It's brighter than daytime

The shepherds and sheep go quiet
And a voice starts speaking
A loud voice
Booming in the quiet

"DO NOT BE AFRAID.
FOR I BRING NEWS OF GREAT JOY.
IN A STABLE YOU WILL FIND A BABY WRAPPED IN SWADDLING CLOTHES,
LYING IN A MANGER."

The shepherds are moving
They're going off the hillside
Let's follow them
We seem to be going to Bethlehem

Here's an inn with a stable
It's dark and cold but dry at least
Look, in the back, there's a manger
And there he is, the baby

Stand with the shepherds
Be alongside Mary and Joseph
Worship baby Jesus
Feel the joy and miracle

.......

It is time to leave the shepherds now
Come back gently.
Open your eyes.
Remember.
Be Still.
