Caterpillar death #NapoWriMoDayNine

Happy caterpillar
Chewing on a leaf
Thinks it is the end
Doesn't feel relief

Makes a cocoon
Doesn't know quite why
Someone said that soon
He'll be able to fly

Caterpillar days
Gone forever now
Suddenly the world
Makes him shout out "wow"

Heavenly butterfly
Lives life on the air
Doesn't miss the leaves
He doesn't have a care

I saw this image at the real toads challenge and it reminded me of a conversation I had with a family about explaining death and heaven to children through the analogy of a caterpillar and a butterfly.  I didn't think I'd be able to write a poem in the required 60 words, although I did.  I hope someone reads this and it helps them understand some more about heaven and how to explain it.

Excellent, Emma...this transition and spiritual transformation...an apt way to explain to a child I think. Beautiful. :)

Beautiful. I love the analogy of a caterpillar as explaining death and heaven... the caterpillar in the picture looks exactly like the ones my kids have fallen in love with on holiday - look at the photos and tell me if you think they're the same. It's the 3rd post down on homepage- Charlie the Caribbean Caterpillar xx
