Five baby owls #NaPoWriMoDayOne

Today is the first day of 30 poems in 30 days with NaPoWriMo.  I'll be following prompts from napowrimo miz quickly and from Real Toads as well as penning anything else I feel inspired to write.

This first poem starts with the title of a book of poetry written by someone else.  I couldn't decide which of many I love to use as inspiration and so decided to use the kids poetry book Rachel wrote last week - Five Baby Owls (now available on kindle) - after all if you can't encourage your child what can you do?

Five baby owls
Sitting, waiting
Stomachs empty
Mummy's hunting

Watching the wood
As daylight comes
Wondering when
She'll fill their tums

Starting to fear
She won't return
What'll they do
All on their own?

Huddling closer
Good for safety
No one saying
What they're thinking

Suddenly
A call they hear
Twit twoo
She's coming near

Five baby owls
Sitting, waiting
Beaks wide open
Anticipating
