Risky behaviour
Exploring tempting oceans
Surfing waves of hope
..
We are all very aware of the risks around us from #covid19 and yet there are risks in every moment of life.
Risks of physical harm when we cross the road or get in a car
Risks of emotional harm when we start a new relationship or end one or love anyone at any time
Risks of sickness from food poisoning or the common cold
Risks to the planet every time we dispose of a piece of plastic
Most of us just don't worry about these risks on a daily basis, it would make life extremely stressful if we did. That doesn't mean we don't assess the risks, but that we have experienced most of them from an early age, have learned how to manage them and know they're worth taking.
And that's at the crux of why so many of us are suffering with heightened anxiety during this pandemic - we are in an unknown situation which we don't know how to manage.
We don't know exactly how the virus is transmitted.
We have no idea who might be asymptomatic.
We don't know how it will affect us and our loved ones if we catch it.
We don't know the risks at all.
So how do we navigate our lives and explore opportunities with all these unknowns?
Well, firstly we follow scientific advice and government rules, that's really important.
But also we hold onto hope.
Hope that everyone is being responsible.
Hope that the scientists and doctors are making advances in vaccinations and treatments.
Hope in the every day moments of life which still continue despite the new risks.
For me, my hope comes from God.
From knowing that God is with me through every moment of every day, no matter what risks I face.
My hope is that you can also know this blessing in your life; that you can surf waves of hope as you explore the oceans of life.
