Words inspired by Mallory Doran

This poem is written is response to the photo attached to the post and as a gift for the young woman who made the stunning piece of material based art.  We had the choice of six dolls to choose from at real toads for the Sunday mini challenge, this was the one which spoke to me.

Mallory Doran, I hope I've done your amazing work justice.  Thanks for allowing me to use your art as my muse.  Emma, UK.

Born to be a swimmer
Grown into a diver
Fulfilling all I can be
Stop, look and see

Falling, falling, falling
Diving involves falling
Soaring, almost flying!
Flying, could I be flying?

Worrying whilst I prepare
Watching and feeling air
Panicking yet rejoicing
The water's closer coming

Ready for the entry
Hoping shapes are beauty
What amazing freedom
How I love my swimming

Please visit real toads and see the amazing creations and read the words which they inspire, this is art in action.

I enjoy especially that you explained the expression on the dolls face, that is what stood out to me when I first looked at this photo as well. Excellent capturing of the inner emotion that goes along with this sport...great piece!

I have loved seeing what people have done with the doll photo prompts. I like what you did with this one! I did a water related poem as well, but with a different doll.

Loved this! I am basically terrified of water ... the look on the doll's face is priceless! I considered turning her upside down and making her fly, but I didn't want to disrespect the creator of the doll!

falling... I'm terrified of diving (of swimming) and that is what I think. But it must be like soaring, flying - a few seconds of true freedom. Nice!
