Join the big litter pick

This year the world turns its eyes to the UK for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and London 2012 Olympics.

If all the eyes of the world are on us then we really need to think about how we look. Our streets, parks, motorways and shopping areas are awash with litter; not the greatest image to share is it?

That's why I'm joining the Big Litter Pick with the AA.

Can you commit just 1 hour to join in and tidy up as well?

Earlier this year, Edmund King, AA president, attended a “litter summit” chaired by the Environment Secretary. Of particular concern was the amount of litter at the roadside and how the UK would appear to visitors during the Olympics.

AA staff are planning to to do their bit to help clear up Britain. The idea is that sometime in the fortnight between 12th and 22nd May we will take to the streets for 30 minutes to an hour to remove the most visible litter such as plastic bottles and sweet papers. We would love it if you could take part near your home either collecting some litter from pavements or reporting back to us on problems, places that need a ‘spring-clean’ (perhaps with photos) and possible solutions.

There will be a £500 prize draw for those members who take part and tell us how they got on and there will be a £1,000 special prize to the person who comes up with the best idea for keeping our streets clean.
